Born in Reims, France, in 1651, Saint John Baptist De La Salle was a brilliant and compassionate young man who devoted his life to the education of children, especially the poor.

During a time of widespread poverty and illiteracy, De La Salle witnessed the desperate need for accessible and effective education. Inspired by his faith and the example of Jesus Christ, he abandoned his comfortable life of wealth and privilege.

Founding the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools

In 1680, De La Salle founded the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, a religious Free Download dedicated to teaching the poor. The Brothers, known as Lasallians, embraced a rigorous and innovative approach to education.

De La Salle developed a revolutionary educational model that emphasized practical skills, critical thinking, and moral formation. He believed that every child, regardless of background, deserved a quality education that empowered them to reach their full potential.

A Pioneer in Education

De La Salle's educational methods were groundbreaking for their time. He introduced innovative teaching techniques such as the simultaneous method, where students learned at different levels in the same classroom, and the monitorial system, where older students assisted in teaching younger ones.

Canonization and Patronage

De La Salle died in Rouen, France, in 1719, at the age of 68. In 1900, he was canonized as a saint by Pope Leo XIII. In 1950, Pope Pius XII proclaimed him the patron saint of all Christian educators.

Today, De La Salle's legacy continues to inspire educators worldwide. Over 1,000 Lasallian schools and universities operate in more than 80 countries, educating millions of students and embodying his vision of quality education for all.
